At the start of the music video production we researched by looking at loads of other music videos (1)In our group we chose 'Honey Honey' from Mamma Mia. We chose this song because it lent itself to having a good narrative written about it (2) We then wrote a treatment about what we wanted to happen in our music video. After we finished the treatment we made a storyboard with pictures that we drew of our music video stages, each member of the group were given a task on drawing about 20 pictures for the story board. After we drew them we learnt a little bit more on final cut (3) When we finished learning these we made an animatic with the pictures we had drawn from our storyboard.
After we had completed the animatic we made a shot list, we did this so it would be easier to start filming at the start of the lesson so that we wouldn’t have to panic about the order of the event and it would be organized, we also did this so that we didn't miss any camera angles/shots etc. that we may need for our finished product.
We then went out to do some filming. We did this over a period of lesson's this was so we could have everything that we needed. We then went and edited it on Final Cut, as we edited the footage we took, we used the techniques we had learnt from a previous lesson. As we got through our editing we realised that we did not have everything we needed, so we had to go out and film the rest of the missing footage, After we had done that we went back to edit it again. During the production we experienced a few problems. Not having enough footage to fit the music video, and on a few days one of the group members was not present, And my computer wouldn't open Final Cut. These were all problems that made the production process go slower, even though it was slower, it is all worth it, because we were pleased with the end product.
With our music video we decided that we would go for a target audience of teenagers. We decided this because we thought it was the best sort of age that would appeal with this song. Also, the music video we have made is the sort of this that is typical for a teenager to go through, we did it for this target audience because we amplify what they would go through (4) I think that there are many things that have a lot of quality in my video; therefore I think that when someone is looking for a song on the music channels they will be attracted to the music video, and then make them want to watch the video over and over again. I think that the music video links well with the target audience because there is a good narrative and the people within the video are a similar age to the target audience (5)
I think that the music video will be known by it being on music channels etc. The music video will be on music channels such as chartshow TV, Starz etc. I would put the music video on this channel as the song fits in with the genre of music on these specific channels (6). In our plan of the music video we used nothing controversial. This means that we didn’t use anything that would offend anyone in the audience.
Notes:
1- In the research we looked at quite a few music video’s by Abba, we did this to see how there videos are so that we could make ours slightly like theirs to make it appeal to the target audience. We noticed that they use pictures of the people in the band, so to keep it original to use that idea in our music video. The generic conventions Abba is over the top clothes, and overly dramatic dance moves etc.
2- The music video lent it self because the lyrics are very easy to make a music video story about it. Also the song lent itself as it is so catchy it makes the audience want to watch it. This song was an ideal choice for our music video becase it is a happy song, and very catchy.
3- We learnt how to change the colour of the footage, add effects such as split screen, make the music track quieter and the footage that we filmed louder so we could hear what is being said in the introduction, how to change the speed of the footage ( to make it slower or faster).
4- For example. Exaggerated slaps, exaggerated looks. we did this so that it looks almost cartoon like, it is hyperreal. Also we did this because the song itself is over the top, Melodramatic.
5- with the target audience being the same age as the people in the video it makes the target audience more attracted to the video.
6- the channel Starz and chartshow TV would have songs from taylor swift, rihanna, JLS etc. I think for better promotion that the band should be on a music channel being interviewed.
